About me
Dr. Zoumenou, is a Full Professor of Dietetics and Nutrition in the Department of Human Ecology, Extension Nutrition and Health Programs Director at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). She is also a Certified Program Evaluator.
Dr. Zoumenou earned a Doctorate in Biochemistry and Nutrition and a PhD in Dietetics and Nutrition. She focuses on outreach programs, community engagement projects, and childhood obesity projects emphasizing the nutritional needs throughout the life cycle. Dr. Zoumenou also provided leadership to several projects: The Well Connected Communities (WCC), a Ten-year Project sponsored by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; the EXCITE 1, 2 vaccination projects, and the EFNEP BRIDGE Access projects sponsored by CDC and the Extension Foundation; and the USDA Agricultural Marketing Services (AMS) Project -Evaluating USDA AMS Grant Opportunities-Successes and Challenges-Focusing on Underserved Communities.
Dr. Zoumenou has successfully obtained multiple grants and has been honored with numerous awards throughout her career. Notably, she was recognized as a 2024 Daily Record Maryland’s Top 100 Women Honoree for her professional achievement, leadership, mentoring, and community service. Her achievements include winning the 2023 SNEB Nutrition Education Program Impact Award, the 2023 Need for Nutrition Education Project (NNEdPro) Excellence in Food and Nutrition Security Award for the U.S., and several Excellence in Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Awards in 2015. Additionally, she has received the White House President Obama’ s Volunteer Service Award in both 2010 and 2012, and the 2013 Robert F. Allen Symbol of HOPE Award. She has been awarded over $5 million in grants.
